Lamborghini shows Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera at Expo 2010 Shanghai

-->Automobili Lamborghini will be the main sponsor of Bologna city’s stand at Expo 2010 Shanghai, opening on May 1.

Among the models shown by the world-famous Italian super sportscar manufacturer, the newly launched Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera will feature prominently.

Displayed on a rotating dais, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera features in one of six themed areas on the stand, as a symbol of Bologna’s creativity and technological innovation.

A selection from the House of the Raging Bull’s Collezione Lamborghini products will also be available on the stand.

Automobili Lamborghini will be attending Expo 2010 Shanghai to promote further its international profile in China, a market which has already shown an enthusiastic appreciation for the Raging Bull brand. Lamborghini will participate in, and sponsor, a program of events in China created in cooperation with Bologna city.

Lamborghini already has a substantial presence in China and the rapidly expanding Chinese market’s passion for super sportscars has enabled the manufacturer to achieve unprecedented levels of sales.

In 2009 Lamborghini delivered 80 new cars to the People’s Republic of China, recording an increase of 11% compared with the previous year. The first quarter of 2010 has shown further significant growth. Lamborghini’s six dealerships in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Hong Kong have been joined, this month, by a new one in Shenzhen, with another opening soon in Xiamen. Automobili Lamborghini’s launch of the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce China Limited Edition at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show further reinforces the manufacturer’s presence in the Chinese market.

"Automobili Lamborghini’s presence at Expo 2010 Shanghai demonstrates our affection and gratitude towards the city of Bologna and further proves our commitment to China’s rapidly developing super sportscar market and appreciation,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and Managing Director of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.a. “In its homage, a special edition of our flagship model, the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce China Limited Edition, is made exclusively for the Chinese market. During the coming months over 70 million visitors to the Expo will be able to see the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, one of the outstanding examples of Bolognese technological expertise,” concluded Winkelmann.

Automobili Lamborghini produces cars embodying some of China’s most highly regarded values: design and function, tradition and innovation, international ‘made in Italy’, luxury, exclusivity and exceptional performance. The main attraction displayed in Shanghai, the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, is a synthesis of these values.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera is the Gallardo range’s new top model. Its evocative “Superleggera” badge refers to a driving car of true sporting character and describes a high-performance and lean automotive athlete. Compared with the already lean Gallardo LP 560-4, the weight of the Gallardo Superleggera has been trimmed by 70 kilograms (154 lb). The super sportscar from Sant’Agata Bolognese boasts a dry weight of no more than 1340 kilograms (2954 lb), setting new standards in its market sector.

Both internal and external components’ use of carbon fibre has significantly contributed to the Superleggera’s weight reduction. This type of composite material is ideal for super sportscars’ manufacture: the weight reduction helps improve the power-to-weight ratio, thereby enhancing the car’s performance and reducing its CO2 emissions. Lamborghini has been the leader in carbon fibre applications for several years and today further consolidates the manufacturer’s strategic role in this material’s research and development.

The new Superleggera’s 5.2 litre V10 engine generates a maximum output of 570 HP (419 kW), achieving a power-to-weight ratio of 2.35 kg/HP and breathtaking performance. The Superleggera flies from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.4 seconds, reaches 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.2 seconds and has a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). The “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” direct fuel injection engine is also very efficient: its fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 20.5%, compared to the previous model.
