The Catalina Grand Prix

The Catalina Grand Prix was a 100-mile motorcycle race held on Santa Catalina Island just off the coast of Los Angeles from 1951-1958, with a one-time revival race in 2010. The 10-mile course was a mix of paved road, dirt fire trails, and dirt roads. The invitational race included the top motorcycle racers the American Motorcycle Association had to offer, plus celebrities like Steve McQueen, Lee Marvin, Dave Ekins, Keenan Wynn, and many more.

In 2010, automotive and motorcycle enthusiast Vinnie Mandzak partnered with Red Bull to revive the race in 2010 with great success, selling out almost immediately. Sadly despite the success of the race, various State and Federal agencies took issue with the race and refused to issue permits for any future events.
