Ultimate Street Car Invitational

TheGentlemanRacer.com was there for the 2009 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational Premier in Hollywood on January 26th to get a sneak peek at the new Ultimate Street Car Invitational on that will be on Speed this weekend. I have to say I was impressed with the quality of the show and just how much fun it was to watch. As someone that has worked in the aftermarket, lots of car builders, parts manufacturers, and hot rodders claim to build performance cars, this show puts them to the test.

In case you are not familiar with it, the Optima event is a shootout of SEMA show cars that leave the world of car dusters and red carpet to take to the track to see if these cars can go as well as show! Some of the best show cars in the world are taken out to the track and flogged hard. It is great to see cars that most people would assume where "trailer queens" being really hammered on the race track.

Hot Rod editor Rob Kinnan did not have a good day. He went off in turn 1 and broke a control arm.

If you are a carguy/gal you need to make time to watch! Not only do you get to see real world cars like Gateway Classic Mustang's 67 Mustang Coupe and the Bad Penny Camaro owned by Steven Rupp of Camaro Performers magazine racing, but you get to see them crash, bang, and really put to the test. Plus the exhibition cars driven by guys like Tanner Foust, are taken right from the Show Booth to the Race Track!

If you are home this weekend glue yourself to SPEED Channel! The show will be on twice this weekend once on Saturday Morning and again on Sunday Afternoon!
