EQUUS Throwback

by Michael Satterfield

The brand behind the revival, if not revisionist, six-figure muscle car, the EQUUS Bass770, has released their latest limited edition ride, called "The Throwback" a retro-styled Corvette that pulls inspiration from several previous generations of the car and what can only assume was Folger's Coffee for the exhaust tips.

According to the press release the EQUUS Throwback starts at $140,000, with options that include 1,000 horsepower, with a claimed top speed of 220+ mph and a 2.5-second 0-60 time. Which if true is pretty impressive, but they also don't tell you how much the 1,000 hp package.

Almost every panel has been redesigned in Carbon Fiber and other than the awkward rally lights and the aforementioned coffee can exhaust tips, I can't really hate on the styling too much, the rear treatment is classic Corvette with a European flair, the side coves echo the 1956 model but with a modern shape that works with the lines of the car, and the subtle nod to the split window that looks like the tail of a stingray looks cool.

Inside everything gets recovered in Alcantara, with diamond pleated seats, engine turned aluminum to wrap the center console and door pulls, and the EQUUS logo replaces the Corvette logo on the steering wheel.

Overall it is an interesting car, according to the release just 25 will be built, but no one at the company returned my emails requesting info on how many have actually been ordered or if they planned on offering any parts as standalone modifications for Corvette owners.
