Aston Martin at Goodwood

by Michael Satterfield

Aston Martin is the featured marque of the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrating 60 years since the legendary British sports car makers 1-2 win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 70 years since the company first raced at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The most iconic Aston Martin of all time the DBR1 was the focal point of this years Goodwood sculpture, designed by artist Gerry Judah, the nearly 100-foot tall structure features a swoop of steel with the DBR1 racing towards the sky, in what almost looks like a section of a lifesize Hotwheels track.

Q by Aston Martin, the luxury carmaker's bespoke division designed six Vantages, each based on a race car from the company's past with modern interpretations of classic liveries. Only 60 of the Vantage Heritage Racing Editions will be sold. The cars feature special aero kits inspired by LeMans, that produce an additional 427 lbs of downforce at 190mph. The kit includes a carbon fiber rear wing, dive planes, and extended front splitter increase downforce while maintaining the balance of the original design. Light-weight wheels, the sports plus pack and carbon fiber interior details to further aid weight reduction.

Inspired by Aston Racing History dating all the way back to the 1923 Razor Blade racer to the famous Gulf Racing colors of the DBR9 which won LeMans in 2007 and 2008. The other liveries each speak to a different era of Aston Martin Racing history and each livery accentuates beautiful lines of the new Vantage.

“It is a great honor to be celebrated at Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. Racing is a crucial component in Aston Martin’s DNA and it is something that we have pursued since the inception of the company more than 100 years ago. We have raced all around the world but the core passion and commitment that we’ve displayed has remained the same since our first race on Aston Hill.”
- Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda President, and Group CEO
