Flat 12 Volvo Amazon to be Auctioned for Charity

by Michael Satterfield

Our friends over at Flat 12 are known for building some wild cars for the SEMA show and this 1963 Volvo Amazon is no exception. Having visited the shop in 2018 when the process of grafting a classic Volvo body to a Corvette Grand Sport chassis and drivetrain began, I can tell you this is one serious hot rod. Powered by a Lingenfelter Performance 7.0-liter LS7 engine it had the power to outperform Corvettes, Camaros, and even a Tesla at the 2018 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitationals that are held after the SEMA show. A customized lower air dam and extra-wide fender flares were needed to make the Amazon fit over the much wider Corvette chassis.

Interior touches include RECARO front seats with Takata 5-point seat belts, a custom sound system, navigation, C6 power locks, power windows, C6 air conditioning, a visual carbon console, and a custom tartan headliner and trunk liner. The car rides on Forgeline GTD-5 monoblock wheels.

The car was unveiled at the 2018 SEMA show as part of the Pennzoil stage and later went on to be featured in the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw, and won numerous awards such as "Most Beautiful non-domestic at LS Fest, and Golden Ticket Winner at the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge at the SEMA Show.

The car is being auctioned off for charity at the upcoming at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction (January 11th-19th, 2020), with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. Check out the official auction listing on Barrett-Jackson.com.
