In 1928, Packard’s legendary chief engineer Jess

In 1928, Packard’s legendary chief engineer Jesse Vincent crafted this one-of-a-kind Speedster to push the limits of performance and design. Built on the company’s lightest chassis with a 385ci straight-eight pumping out 130 hp, it hit a staggering 129 mph at the Packard Proving Grounds, an incredible feat for the era. With no fenders, lights, or even a windshield, this bare-bones boattail was all about speed. Even Charles Lindbergh got behind the wheel and called it the fastest he’d ever gone on land.

Today, the original lives at America's Packard Museum, and a faithful replica resides at the National Packard Museum. A stunning reminder of when engineers drove innovation, literally.

The Ghost Squadron Tour 2025 roared through Portugal this April, transforming the sun-drenched roads between Lisbon and Évora into a playground for some of the world’s most exclusive hypercars. With 27 elite vehicles participating, the rally was a spectacle of speed, design, and engineering prowess. The Gentleman Racer photographer Quentin Martinez was along for the ride.

On the morning of November 20, 1951, a field of glistening American sedans and European sports cars roared out of the damp jungle air at Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. Sunlight glinted off fenders and cactus-strewn hillsides as engines screamed into life. Crowds of amazed villagers watched as competitors, ranging from American NASCAR racers to Grand Prix legends, set off on a nearly 2,200-mile border-to-border endurance rally, known as the La Carrera Panamericana. Among them was Car #48: a steel-bodied, 1951 Packard 200 Club Sedan. Behind the wheel sat Jean Trévoux, a wiry Frenchman known for four Monte Carlo Rally victories. With co-driver Marcel Lesurque beside him, Trévoux embodied the daring spirit of the event, a blend of postwar adventure and raw horsepower that would come to define Mexico’s great road race.
