Why Road Trips Are Better Than Flying

Why Road Trips Are Better Than Flying

I have always been a fan of road trips; from the moment I got my license, I was behind the wheel of my car and trying to see what was down at the end of those backroads. Before that, my parents would often take us on road trips to see family in various parts of the country; each time my dad would try to find a different route to my Great Grandparent's cabin in Northern Arizona, we would discover something new, and from a rarely visited lookout of the Grand Canyon to a long forgotten ghost town off the beaten path. By 17, my parents let me take that trip to Arizona alone; little did they know that a year earlier, my best friend and I had made a quick trip to buy fireworks from the Avi Resort & Casino in Laughlin, Nevada.

The call of the open road, meeting exciting people, and finally finding out what was at the end of Zzyzx Road are why I love road trips. While flying may be the quickest way to get from point A to point B, there is nothing like being able to take a detour; you might just discover something magical or end up with a story about accidentally driving into the nudest colony, either way it is much more interesting than rushing from Gate A28 to catch you connecting flight at Gate D12. But if you need more convincing, here are some of my top reasons why you should consider taking a road trip!

Why Road Trips Are Better Than Flying

Flexibility

One of the biggest advantages of a road trip is the flexibility it offers. Unlike a flight, where you have to adhere to a strict schedule, a road trip allows you to customize your itinerary as you go. You can take detours, explore new places, and stay longer in places you love. You don't have to worry about missing your flight or being bound by a strict itinerary.

Cost

While the cost of fuel and lodging can add up during a road trip, it is still often cheaper than flying. The cost of a flight ticket can be exorbitant, especially during peak travel seasons. On a road trip, you have more control over your expenses and can choose to stay at budget-friendly accommodation or even camp for free in some places. Moreover, you don't have to worry about additional expenses like car rentals and airport parking fees.

Scenic Routes

A road trip allows you to take in the beauty of a place at your own pace. You can choose to take scenic routes that you would otherwise miss if you were flying. You can stop at viewpoints, hike to waterfalls, and take in the scenery at your leisure. A road trip is the perfect way to experience the natural beauty of a place.

Bonding Experience

A road trip is a great way to bond with your travel companions. You spend hours in the car together, share meals, and create memories that will last a lifetime. You can engage in meaningful conversations, play games, and create inside jokes that will stay with you long after the trip is over.

Why Road Trips Are Better Than Flying

Convenience

A road trip offers convenience in several ways. You can pack as much as you want without worrying about luggage restrictions or fees. You can also stop at grocery stores to stock up on snacks and drinks for the journey. Furthermore, you don't have to worry about navigating through a new city or finding transportation to get around.

Freedom

A road trip offers a sense of freedom that cannot be matched by flying. You can stop whenever you want, take as much time as you need, and explore at your own pace. You don't have to worry about missing your flight or being bound by a tight schedule. A road trip is the perfect way to escape the monotony of everyday life and experience a sense of adventure.

Road trips offer several advantages over flying. They offer flexibility, cost savings, scenic routes, bonding experiences, convenience, freedom, and health benefits. So, the next time you plan a trip, consider taking a road trip instead of flying. You may be surprised at how much more enjoyable and memorable the journey can be.
