The Association for Historical Fencing will hold the Grand Assault of Arms Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 2:00pm-4:30pm at the Community Education and Recreation Center, 180 Ninth Street in Jersey City, New Jersey 07302. The Grand Assault of Arms allows classical and historical fencers to test their martial skill in the context of a tournament in the manner fencers were judged more than 100 years ago. The public is invited to watch the finals of each weapon category. Participants will be fencing foil, dueling Sabre, dueling sword, and small sword.  The public will experience the art, science, and beauty of traditional fencing as it was practiced during the 18th and 19th century. In addition, actual fencing equipment from centuries past will also be on display for the public to see up close.

The Grand Assault proper developed in the late 1860s and early 1870s in tune with economic and historical forces that gave birth to France's gilded age, La Belle Époque. According to Maestro Jeannette Acosta-Martinez from Martinez Academy of Arms, "It takes a great deal of discipline, training, motivation, and an understanding of protocol and etiquette to participate in the Grand Assault.
