Health and well-being are essential to leading a good quality of life. By maintaining your health and well-being, you can experience more daily comfort, reduce the number of negative symptoms you experience and even prolong your life. But knowing where to start can feel difficult. There are so many different areas of health that you can focus on. All too many people see the options available to them, feel overwhelmed, and simply back out. But instead, you could find that creating a healthy to-do list can help. As we step into a new year, this is a great way to get into some new habits and progress toward getting in better shape. Here are some health checks to add to your to-do list to start with.

Dental Checks

Dental health is really important. You may not pay much attention to your teeth on a day-to-day basis, but if you experience dental issues, you won’t be able to think of anything outside of them. This is why it’s important to make sure that you’re visiting your dentist once every six months. This will give them a chance to look at the health of your mouth and take action if necessary. This could range from tackling cavities to resolving wisdom teeth issues. You may need fillings, root canals, or extractions. Your dentist will discuss this thoroughly with you before getting started. Make sure that you follow a good dental routine to make sure that you don’t experience issues where possible. The first step towards a good smile is to have a healthy smile. Sure, dental basics may be something that you have drilled into you since being a child, but a lot of people slip out of good habits. You should make sure that you brush your teeth thoroughly, twice a day for roughly two minutes each time. Manual and electric toothbrushes can both be great used properly. You should use toothpaste that contains fluoride. Then, floss. Use tape floss for your front teeth and interdental cleaners for your molars. Finish off with a mouthwash that is recommended by your dentist.

BMI

You should make sure to check your BMI at the start of the new year. Many of us overdo things over the festive period, overindulging. Checking your BMI can alert you to issues and may encourage you to make dietary changes to reach a healthier weight. Ready to adapt to a healthier diet? Healthy eating plays a major role in your well-being, as the food you consume is the fuel that you provide your body with. However, healthy eating isn’t as straightforward as you may initially think. You need to consider numerous elements of your daily meals and snacks to ensure that your body is getting protein, vitamins, nutrients, carbohydrates and so much more. If you’re feeling lost, get in touch with a nutritionist who will be able to create a meal plan that ticks all of your boxes. They will be able to ensure that you incorporate the right ingredients into your meals to really benefit from the food you’re eating. You may also want to consider investing in some supplements if you find that you’re struggling to get specific nutrients in. Perhaps you’re looking to bulk and want to use Steel workout supplements. You may be vegan and have to take B12 to hit your targets while maintaining a plant-based diet. Whatever your needs, there will be a supplement out there to help.

Opticians Appointments

Have you seen an optician in the past two years? If the answer is no, you need to make sure to book an appointment soon! Opticians' appointments don’t just test your sight, ensuring that you can see both short and long distances. They also allow the optician to completely survey the health of your eye. They will take a look at your eye from front to back and can detect issues within the eye itself or on its surface. They could even pick up signs of seemingly unrelated medical conditions, such as diabetes. Book the right test to suit your needs and make sure to turn up on time. Eye tests aren’t hard and you’ll be left understanding your options for contact lenses or glasses (if required) and with a clear mind, knowing you don’t have eye issues to worry about, or having been referred for treatment if any problems were detected.

These are just three health checks that you should work into your routine soon. They don’t have to take much time or be expensive. Instead, they will simply ensure you receive any assistance or help that you may need to reach your peak health!
