Bulova Wilton A Timeless GMT

Bulova Wilton A Timeless GMT

by Michael Satterfield - 04/29/2023

This month I have been wearing the Bulova Wilton GMT, released in 2022 it is powered by the Miyota 9075 Caliber 24 jewel self-winding movement, which is accurate to -10 seconds to +30 seconds a day, with a 42-hour power reserve. The 9075 is a 4-hand GMT movement, a first from Miyota. The GMT complication was first developed for pilots in the 1950s who needed to keep track of time in two timezones. It soon proved popular with travelers, businessmen, and anyone who needed to know what time it was in London, Tokyo, or Delhi at a glance. The Wilton is a true GMT and not an "office GMT" which means the true GMT watch, the local hour hand can be adjusted independently in one-hour increments.

As an avid traveler myself, I have always had at least one GMT watch in my collection, but this Bulova has quickly become one of my favorite watches to wear daily thanks to its classic style and despite being 42mm, it doesn't feel like you are wearing a watch that is larger than a Rolex Submariner. This is mostly thanks to the strap which is 22mm and makes the watch feel lighter and the black leather gives it a sophisticated dressed-up look. While I am not usually a fan of deployant straps, this one opens up wide enough to get my hand through easily and is low profile enough that you can rest your wrist on it without being uncomfortable. I of course swapped over to a NATO strap for most days, just because it is my favorite strap and was a nice way to make the Wilton feel a little less formal.

For me, the dial is by far the standout feature on the Wilton, a beautiful world map in blue with silver Romain Numerals, and red accents. The dial features a level of detail not often seen in watches at this price point and if blue isn't your style the Wilton GMT is also offered with a white dial with gold and red accents. Both versions have an exhibition case back that shows off the beautiful automatic movement which beats at 4Hz or 28,880 vph frequency and has a 42-hour power reserve. While not the most decorated movement, it does have some nice details and offers the function and quality of watches that are five times the price.

The Wilton GMT offers a different take on the dress watch making it a perfect choice for the well-dressed traveler. While the strap doesn't have quick-release lug bars, swapping out the strap to a colorful NATO is a great way to dress down the watch for casual Fridays, but just keep in mind this isn't a field watch so you may want to keep your adventures of the urban variety.
