Have instantly fallen in love with a pickup truck? Like, even before you drove it, just walking up to it, and it just feels right. The GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition is the most capable factory off-road half-ton truck GMC has ever produced and it comes with a price to match, add any options are the window sticker climbs to just south of six figures. For the uninitiated AEV stands for American Expeditionary Vehicles, a company that has been supplying aftermarket off-road parts and accessories since 1997, today the company offers special packages for Jeep, Ram, Chevrolet, and of course GMC.

Subtle Yet Powerful

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition may look like a truck with a lift and some badges, but don't let its appearance fool you. Unlike its flashy competitors, it's almost a sleeper, offering a mature approach to off-roading without the need for excessive flashiness.

AT4X Trim Delivers

Many of the features you'll love in the AEV Edition are also available in the base AT4X trim. So, you don't need to break the bank to enjoy the AT4X's impressive capabilities. The AEV just takes everything that you get with the AT4X and elevates it.

Impressive Off-Road Prowess

The four-wheel-drive AT4X comes with a powerful 6.2-liter V-8 engine, a two-speed transfer case, front and rear e-locking differentials, and an excellent Multimatic DSSV suspension. It's built for off-road adventures, whether you're crawling over rocks or tackling powerline roads. Plus it is still a GMC Sierra, so it does it all without sacrificing any comfort or driveability. One note, because of the lift and lack of running boards, those who are on the shorter side might need a hand getting in.

Premium Interior

Inside, the AT4X offers a luxurious experience with a large infotainment touchscreen, configurable instrument cluster, premium audio system, and comfortable, massaging seats. It's a cabin designed for both comfort and control. We took it on a cross-state road trip to pick up our MG Midget project car, not only was it smooth riding on the highway, but the interior was comfortable for the long haul.

Unique AEV Edition Features

The AEV Edition adds exclusive equipment, including skid plates, rear bumper, wheels, floor liners, and more. It elevates the Sierra's capabilities and style, making it a standout on and off the road. Plus it gives you bragging rights in the off-road world as AEV is a brand trusted by the most hard-core off-road enthusiasts.

Towing Capacity

The AT4X AEV Edition can tow up to 8,700 pounds, making it a practical choice for those who need to haul heavy loads. It outperforms competitors like the Raptor and the Ram TRX in this department. Our road trip adventure to pick up a classic car didn't even phase the truck.

If you are in the market for a truck that can go anywhere off-road and still be nice enough to drive o church on Sunday, the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition is a truck that balances style, substance, and off-road prowess. While the AEV Edition adds some unique features, the base AT4X trim already offers an impressive package. Whether you choose the AEV Edition or not, you'll find plenty to love about this powerful and capable pickup truck.
